Hyatt Regency Brisbane: What to Expect

When this property was taken over by Hyatt a few years back I was excited to finally have a hotel where I could use points in my own backyard. The idea of having a staycation without a flight to another capital city in Australia felt like a great edition.

I will say it is expensive for what it is, but to have a proper Hyatt in the city is a nice development. Before the appearance of the Hyatt Regency in Brisbane I would have considered the W Hotel just a couple of blocks away to be the only other major hotel that had service that could be on par with international destinations.

With that being said, this is one of the smaller Hyatt Regency’s that I’ve been to. The location is excellent and while the address is Burnett Lane (more on this handy location later) it has an entrance facing the pedestrian mall at Queen Street which is the main shopping area in the city.

Overall, if you are staying in Brisbane and are a Hyatt member, this is very nice location and it has the facilities and service that you would expect.

What’s great about the Hyatt Regency Brisbane

The location

From here you’ve got easy access to Queen Street Mall and the fancy shops that line the area. Also, just a short walk across the bridge will take you to Southbank pools and the Arts and Museum precinct of Brisbane. I’ve stayed here many weekends when I knew I would be going to sporting events and shows.

The pool

In the mornings the rooftop pool is a nice spot. That’s when the sun is on the pool side of the building. I enjoy reading here and watching my kids play in the water. Albeit it is on the small side but people seem to be good at sharing.

A few helpful tips before you stay at the Hyatt Regency Brisbane

·       Again, this is a historic building and the rooms are smaller because of this. There are a limited number of true suites which have a king bed and a small living area with a mini bar and built in bench This is my preferred room, and their room numbers usually end in ‘11’ and are just next to the elevator.

During this stay at the Hyatt Regency Brisbane, my luggage and I stayed in a smaller king room.

·       You’ll want to check out Burnett Lane. If you are at the checkout desk you use the elevators behind you and go down to the street level. You’ll find one of the locations of the famous “Lune Croissanterie” and at night there’s a popular Korean restaurant and even a karaoke joint. It’s an unexpected back street that might otherwise go unnoticed among the more popular shopping streets of Brisbane.

Lune on Burnett Lane

In the evening on Burnett Lane you can enjoy any number of restaurants and even rent a room for karaoke.

·       Sometimes the elevators to the rooms can take a while. So, build in some time into your schedule if you have to be somewhere promptly.

·       The free Globalist waters are already in the mini fridge in your room. There will be a little sign hanging from them to let you know.

·       There is no club lounge, but if you are a Globalist member you will receive a card that will allow you a small tasting plate and a drink of your choice from the bar. The tasting plate is the smallest of bites.

·       The welcome gift is usually a sparkling water and a bowl of fresh fruit.

·       If you need something from the grocery store, head down the escalators to the Queen Street entrance and across the mall there is the Uptown Centre (the old Myer Centre) and you can go down another set of escalators and find a well-stocked Coles.

Is there room service at the Hyatt Regency Brisbane?

Yes, there is in-room dining at the Hyatt Regency Brisbane. You can use the QR code from your phone to order the room service and pay for it at the time of ordering. It’s Australian pricing so it’s a premium, but sometimes you just want a club sandwich and some fries from the convenience of your room.

Is there a Globalist breakfast at the Hyatt Regency Brisbane?

Yes, there is a breakfast buffet included for Globalist members at Lennon’s restaurant on the check-in level.

The fresh fruit station at the breakfast buffet at the Hyatt Regency Brisbane. There is also hot foods, baked goods, a congee station, juice station and tea and coffee station.

What is the gym like at the Hyatt Regency Brisbane?

The gym is on the same level 4 area as the pool, accessible by guest key only. It has cardio machines and weight machines and a view of nearby buildings that are built up quite high.

Points or pay?

As with most of the other Hyatt properties in Australia that are very expensive, I’d be using points or a free night voucher here.
